The Davis County Area

Situated beneath the pristine peaks of the Wasatch Mountains and alongside the expansive shores of The Great Salt Lake, Davis County is comprised of small cities and towns that have retained big hearts. A community spirit exists here that is somehow oblivious to the massive growth threatening the rural lifestyle, which has clung to Utah’s Mormon pioneer roots for more than a century.

Residents and visitors alike will find friendly and welcoming faces amongst the towns to the north of Salt Lake City. Although the “big city” sits a mere 15-30 minutes south of most Davis County locales, residents remain true to a strong belief in community involvement and the value of friends and family.

Home of “the greatest snow on earth®,” northern Utah enjoys superior opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. Resorts located within an hour or two from Davis County include: Alta, Brighton, The Canyons, Deer Valley, Park City, Snowbasin, Snowbird, Solitude, Sundance and Wolf Mountain.

During the warmer months, Antelope Island State Park is also a short drive from anywhere in Davis County. The island is a natural wonder in scenic beauty, home to white sand beaches and interesting wildlife. Plentiful opportunities exist nearby for hiking, biking, sailing and exploring the great outdoors.

A favorite attraction during the springtime in Utah is viewing the flowering cherry trees, which effuse a heavenly scent from cascading waves of pink and white blossoms while the branches dance in the gentle end-of-winter breeze. Many Utah streets and properties are lined with cherry trees, and Davis County certain has its fair share. After “blossom season,” Summer brings around perfect weather for hiking in the mountains, where the temperatures are slightly cooler.

For those who are more inclined toward indoor pursuits, commerce is alive and well in Davis County. Shopping is a favorite pastime when residents aren't playing in the majestic mountains that spike high above it to the east. Bountiful is home to a number of retail shopping centers, boasting stores that range from big-name chains to small boutiques.

Employment is readily available in many Davis County businesses and the largest employer in the state – Hill Air Force Base – is located nearby.

Commuting to, from and within Davis County is easier than ever, thanks to recent road improvements and the rapidly-expanding Utah Transit Authority (UTA) light rail transportation.

Education:

Davis School District

Bountiful children attend school in the Davis School District, along with 35,000 other youths from the Layton and Syracuse areas. Located in Farmington, the Davis School District serves dozens of elementary, middle and high schools in northern Utah.

The Davis School District fosters a fantastic gifted and talented program for students whose talents and abilities reside above the “average” curriculum levels set by the state of Utah. In place since 1992, the program allows those children who have already mastered the skills of their current grade level to progress into more challenging work.

Also of note is the specialized Bountiful High School program for students who struggle to learn in traditional public schools. The Bountiful 3-6 Program is an alternative-school program for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The 3-6 Program exists with the goal of helping all students gain the necessary skills and confidence for success beyond graduation.

The Davis School District is committed to its Technology Advancement Plan, which supports the progression of technology education within area schools. All Davis School District schools adhere to the State of Utah’s School Improvement Plan, by identifying the most critical needs of district schools and establishing a course of action for remedying any deficiencies. A primary goal of the Davis School District is to provide ongoing improvement to the quality of education.
